Most spam nowadays is being sent by groups who operate very similar to
'offline' organised crime groups. And they have a similar need for security.
Spammers have to protect themselves and their data against ISPs, security
researchers and law enforcement. Hence their need for security and a good
infrastructure has grown too. This paper looks at some of the recent
developments in this area.

Carel van Straten is an investigator at The Spamhaus Project, where he finds
out what makes the spammers' infrastructure tick - and makes sure it stops
ticking. Spamhaus is an international non-profit organization based in the UK
whose mission is to track the Internet's Spam Gangs, to provide dependable
real-time anti-spam protection for Internet networks, and to work with law
enforcement agencies to identify and pursue spammers worldwide.
