Windows NT is a hardy operating system, but a couple areas of criticism are the ability to remotely administrate machines and the lack of a robust shell or command line. This paper outlines the author's experience in these areas and attempts to demonstrate simple and practical solutions. The only tools required to achieve these results are an NT workstation or server and the NT Resource Kit. This combination will fulfill a majority of the remote administration needs. Attention will be focused on taking care of these needs through the NT Command Line. This includes the use of programs that are built into Windows NT, and utilities that are contained within the NT 4.0 Resource Kit. This paper is intended as a practical guide for remotely administering PC's running NT and should be a good source of transition for the Unix administrator.
