This talk will provide an overview about the different Open Source solutions currently available to provide High Availability with Linux. Solutions discussed will include:

  • The Linux Virtual Server project
  • Various failover clustering solutions, and techniques they use to cope with specific failure scenarios: heartbeat and Linux FailSafe
  • Shared storage solutions currently available on Linux, (Global File System, Fibre-Channel, shared SCSI)
  • drbd as a special case of shared storage without the price of shared storage hardware.

If we have enough interest, we will continue discussing questions in a BOF session.

Lars Marowsky-Brée is working as a consultant and developer at SuSE Linux Solutions AG.
