NLUUG Autumn conference 2002October 31, 2002
De Reehorst |
Mankind has always been on a continuing exploration, first of land and sea, body and mind, but the last years we're going more and more "where no man has gone before", not only in harsh environments (outer space, deep sea), but also environments that are closer to home (miniaturisation and nanotechnology, supercomputing, life critical). Computers are used extensively in this field. These special environments have special demands on hardware and software. The special nature of these environments also makes it hard to test and deploy systems (creating a need for simulations, often with little information). Our question is "Is UNIX good enough for machines operating in these environments?". If you think UNIX is suited, or isn't suited at all (and you can prove it!) we'd like to hear from you. The official language at the conference will be Dutch, but English spoken lectures are welcome too.
Presentations and tutorials are being solicited in areas including, but not limited to:
computing in harsh environments (user unfriendly)
embedded UNIX
massive parallel UNIX
fault tolerance
simulations and tests
internal UNIX extremes
extreme UNIX applications
UNIX for Flight Control Systems
Linux-based phone
Linux on Palm PDA
1024+ node Linux clusters
You are invited to submit abstracts for tutorials or presentations that discuss new developments in the area of Extreme UNIX. We are also interested in presentations on user experiences with Extreme UNIX.
We call upon people who have an interesting contribution for a tutorial or
presentation to submit an abstract
before August 23, 2002, for review by the program committee.
Abstracts should be submitted via the NLUUG web site.
